I haven't heard of Prexis before. I looked them up, and the prices seem reasonable. Any reason why you are wanting a different source than them?

Because i had my rifle re-barreled by them and a cartridge blew up in my face! After finally getting the cartridge remove from the chamber and test fireing 5 more rounds, it is evident either the rifle was not head spaced properly, or the chamber cut is wrong. Attempts to contact them has not gotten a response.

Perhaps the barrel was chambered for the original 7.62x45?

No, it wasn't. I finally got a response from Prexis after two weeks and a claim with Paypal. I sent him a video of the problem and he is replacing the barrel and doing the job again. Lets hope its right this time.

Their website isn't the greatest nor is their product description near stellar. Did you have to send you your existing barreled action to them and they returned it to you with a new barrel installed?

Gives me an idea. Yeah, I know that can be dangerous :o

I can get the reamers and head space gauges for 7.62x45. Might grab one of their barrels and ream it out to the "proper" caliber for these rifles, and see what the cartridge can do! I have too much time invested in my 7.62x45 brass to ditch it for the SKS round.

The VZ52 action is weaker than the SKS action, and both cases are loaded to nearly identical muzzle velocities. There's enough extra case capacity and powder options that you can load 7.62x39 to excessive pressures without needing the extra 6mm of the 7.62x45.

How do yo figure the vz52 is a weaker action than an sks??? It locks at the front the sks locks at the rear so it can flex and add in how thin the receiver is back thru the lockup area.
The vz52 locks at the front way less flex and if you look at the area of the locking faces the 52 has far more lockup than the sks.
You need to get a chronograph, the surplus ammo I have chrono'd 2500+ that's not loaded to the same pressure. That's anywhere from 200 to 250 FPS faster than 7.62X39.
