Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

.45 long colt

#1 Post by nrobertb » Thu Jul 05, 2018 11:55 am

This week I watched a new TV show where two teams of gunsmiths compete against each other. One of the challenges was to convert a six-shooter from .45 long colt to .45 ACP. They said a lot of gun owners used to do this because the long colt round was "unstable".

Are they talking about a real thing or is this just nonsense?

I don't recall the name. It was on Tuesday night following Forged In Fire on the History channel.

Gunsmiths using the name "Long Colt"? There is no such thing. It is .45 Colt. Its as bad as calling a magazine a clip.
As for unstable, I had several .45 Colt revolvers both original Peacemakers and new made large frame. They all shot fine.

In a pure world I would agree with you..but that shell has been called that many times through history.. Also my gosh how many guns are renamed with nicknames vs the official name from the company.. IE the Colt lightning pistol. And I even think that the SAA got the Nickname Peacemaker non officially.. So where does it end.?? Naming conventions are fleeting at times.
