BTW, those items are cut from thick vinyl tubing that can be purchased by the foot at Lowes (and probably other places).

I have a plastic sight protector that slip over the rear & front sights (M1) and have been placing a yellow "thread protector" rubber cap on the op handle. Any hardware store carries them. Some places sell them as 'vacuum caps' to protect oil/gas line fitting ends.

been using automotive vacuum caps on the M1 and M1A , FN49"s , of course after I scratched and dented the works

I alternate my rifles muzzle up muzzle down. This prevents mishaps like that. It also allows you to get more guns in your safe.
