Picked this up at the very end of the gunshow today, just as I was thinking there was nothing I wanted. Been looking for an Israel rebuild for a while, just hadn't found the correct combination of rifle, price, and finances at the same time.
Here she is, FN Herstal made for Israel, with the 7.62 replacement barrel. Bore is sharp and shiny, muzzle less than '1' on my gauge. Bolt matches, nothing else does. A mixmaster of FN, Israeli, and old German parts. Has a great trigger, I bet it will be a good shooter!
Really just like I like them, not a beater, but has some wear so I don't feel bad shooting it.
Any comments or info are welcomed.

That's just the type of Israeli Mauser I'd love to find! Congrats!

Thanks guys. It was great to find it, almost exactly the last table we looked at on Saturday morning.
I spied a few milsurp looking rifles and went to look...my hand hit this one and didn't let go. Had to set it down to get out my money, and another guy picked it up...sorry Charlie, that one's taken :D
Got some brass sized and trimmed, but have to lube up some bullets and load, might be a week or two until I make it to the range.

Hi Wrench

you have done very well, one of the most tidiest Israeli K98 I have seen in a long time.

Good score :thumb:

That is very nice. I'd love to get one like that for myself. I like my rifles with some character. The mixed parts don't bother me as long as they are the type of parts appropriate to the rifle. Now you need to let us know how it shoots.

Thanks,

Patrick

"it has the stickiest mauser bolt ive ever shot."

I encountered a Finned M91 that the owner didn't use. It operated too hard. He asked me to take a look at it.
It was completely dry. I disassembled the bolt and oiled and greased every part, including (I removed the stock) the trigger group.
I greased the exterior of the barrelled action, and all other parts as well.

After operating the bolt a few times it started to work the way it's supposed to.
The owner later admitted he'd never tried to applied any lube to it.
It's now one of his "go to the range fun rifle", guess it shoots pretty well.
