Mine used to look like that!!!???? Damn Guatamalens!!

I guess I'll have to invent a story for mine. Maybe it was captured one of the wars over there, smuggled from Egypt into Somalia, used by Pirates, captured by the Russians, Sold to the Ukraine and imported by CAI!! Must have slipped in with their RC k98s. Very Rare, Very Rare indeed. Yeah, that's the ticket.

.

That's not exactly the same. That's some gold blinged version. I've seen
one of those before on Kris Gasior's site. Not a service rifle, but some
kind of "special edition" presentation/gift gun.

A local dealer ordered a dozen IDF FN actioned Mausers in the early 80s and they came in with all the metal refurbed but wearing worn (but cleaned & sanded) refurbed stocks. The refurb hardware was a mix of German, FN, Czech, and even IDF produced parts.

The neat thing was that they were each accompanied by a BRAND NEW stripped of all hardware IDF made (I think) stock like those on the rifle of the OP and on the Mauser in the link. They also included a new IDF sling with each rifle. I don't know who the importer was.

Some of the new stocks were drilled for the bolt take down hole in the BP and some were not. Why they were not imported with the new stocks installed I have no idea. Perhaps at the time it was more cost effective to ship a new stock with the rifle than for the importer to pay for the labor to install the new one.

The point is what you basically have with these clean 98s is a IDF Mauser that was completly refurbed with a new stock added that probably is not original to the rifle if indeed any of the parts are. I'd give that some thought before I spent big bucks on a clean IDF Mauser. They sure are nice though.

I suspect the GB FN Mauser has been reblued since it was imported. The OPs FN looks closer to the blue on some of the ones I messed with while some were what I remember to be a matt blue/black over park.

Most IDF Mausers went through more than one refurb in IDF service and again before being stored/surplused. Those nice ones just did not make the trip to South America thank goodness.

I wish I could say I snagged one of them but sadly I did not. I did switch out the stocks on most of them and installed the slings for the owner in a deal for a minty FR-8 he got in at the same time.

I agree that stock is new and done recently. Doesn't even have the caliber on the stock.

Great point! :thumb:

None of the new stocks I installed were so marked though all of the used stocks were. That also may account for some of the stocks not being drilled for the bolt take down. If memory serves all the old stocks were FN stocks though some were wearing Czech trigger guards.

I don't think the stock of the OP was recently installed but I'd be willing to bet it showed up with a IDF Mauser in the 80s and was installed after the fact like the ones I did. I wish I took note of who the importer was.

Just last year I bought a left over refurbed 7.62 marked IDF stock and HG from that dealer (out of business now) for $15 and sold it to a guy needing one to replace a rotted SA used IDF FN stock.

Thats a mighty fine IDF K98 you have there. Looks unused to me. Has not been through the Guatamalan swamp lockers.

I just got an interesting IDF K98 with the winter trigger. Have not seen one in a while.
