I just helped a friend with his Enfield. He bought it from Big 5 (a chain sporting goods store in the US) years ago. He managed to misplace both handguards and I ordered replacements. P.S. According to my For Collectors Only book, Maltby no. 4 serial numbers jump from "A" to "E". The beginning of this thread shows other letters in the series. Was there a "B" or "C" also?

Year: 1941
Month: NA
Serial Number: E 1008X
Handguard: B replaced
Furniture: B replaced
Fore end: N replaced
Name: Fred

Here's one that was FTRed:

F (FTR) 48

YEAR - 1942
MONTH - Appears as if there is a "4" is stamped after the 1942
SERIAL NUMBER - AF 10389
SMOOTH HANDGUARD = S (new, looks like it was replaced during FTR; beech but darkly stained)
FURNITURE = B (Repaired during FTR, new SN stamped, but a faint older, different SN remains near the tip)
LOW WALL FORE-END
MEMBER NAME - 101Voodoo

Interesting rifle, appears to be unissued after the FTR, but has a very nicely countersunk Ishy screw on the right side. Doesn't look like the usual crooked wood screws screwed flush on the left side of most Ishy's.

The rifle has been through at least two FTRs, one at Faz (F) 48 and rather interestingly at Maltby; with the their FTR mark. There is a third "FTR" stamping on the wrist below the serial number, I'm unsure whether this indicates a third FTR or not. It has a Longbranch Mk1 button cocking piece and a Savage bolt.

The rifle came to me with a Beech stock set, including a short butt. Neither low walled nor grooved, presumably from the Faz FTR. The stock was damaged beyond my skill to repair so I replaced it with:
- SL (William Skyes?) low walled Walnut fore-end
- N74 (William Sykes?) grooved Walnut handguard
- N67 Walnut front handguard
- DOW marked long length Beech buttstock stained to match.

Edited for format.
