Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

7.65x53 Yugo M24/47

#1 Post by tahoe2 » Wed Jun 14, 2017 12:12 am

Everything the title says, needed to replace the 8mm barrel on my M24/47 Yugo (over a year ago)
so I swapped it out with an Argentine Cavalry Carbine barrel I had laying around. I figured the shorter
case/cartridge (57mm vs 53mm) wouldn't be an issue and I was right, the gun works perfectly, right out
the gate I was getting 1" to 1-1/4" groups with the occasional 3/4".

Oooooooh, nice score! Did you reproduce the safety breech feature or just install the barrel as a regular M98? I did a 24/47 as a 7x57 w/safety breech. It prints little groups.

Hey Bob, that's the one that produced those 3/4" groups with the .313" Speer's I got from you. I did not do the safety breech, but brass (PPU) measures fine so far.
I only have about 60 rounds through her, she shot good, loaded up some more, and put her away ! My loads are just below the middle of printed data, so the brass is
not as stressed as the high end of the typical 5 grain swing for the cartridge, I've never felt the need to load hot, and those groups proved it.

Thanks professrh !

That barrel slugged out at .3125" and does really good with Hornady's 174 grn RNSP as well.
