I have been wanted a bayonet for both my Krag and my 03 for some time. But as we all know, they ain't any cheaper than the guns they go on! None-the-less I troll ebay and gunbroker like everyone else, looking for the fella who doesn’t know what he has.

Well I found just the thing on ebay last week, a 1899 Krag bayonet going for $39.95 "buy it now." The pictures where blurry and it was hard to tell exactly what condition the thing was in. But I thought, for that price--I have a bayonet until I can find a better one. The seller said "it's a solid, 6 out of 10." His rep was good, so I though it just can't be a total risk.

So $45.95 and it was UPSing its way to my door. 4 days later this shows up

Aside from the patina on the grip, the item appears in virtually perfect shape! The rivets are clearly intact; the handle is aged, but show no major chips or scratches, or even a great amount of wear to the edges. The blade is fairly bright, there are some scratches, but it's not been sharpened. I would rate this an 8.5 as often see this grade of bayonet going for considerably more.

And of course, the most important thing...it looks way cool on my rifle. So I'm a happy camper:-)

Unfortunately, it didn't come with a sheath, but I like to display my weapon with bayonet attached and sans sheath. And if my luck holds out, I'll find a nice one for 20 bucks!

Ronn

Ronn,
Sure looks like a good bayonet. It's a later one as the wood is not as sanded down as the earlier ones but is correct. You've got at least a hundred dollar bayonet! Repeat, at least!
Good for you,

Docbob

I'm envious. Now that I've gotten a good 1901 Krag, I want a bayonet for it. I'm both ignorant and wary of the high prices, so I'm trying to find something local. The problem is that I live down here in the cold desert of Redneckistan, OR, where there are not too many people.

the scabords are not found on the loose all that often , and are often damaged as in dented or the hangers broke , but you may well find one , and "with your luck" as you put it $20 may come to pass ,

there are four versions out there , the first two versions had the 'finger' that fitted the prairie belt bullet loop the first swinging freely and the second restricted ,

the second two versions had the safty pin like wire attachement , the third with a wide wire that flanked the bullet loop on the prairie belt and the fourth a narrow wire configuration the fit between the pouches of the later cartrige belt ,

you might note that the krag will aso fit your M1903/A3 , but you will need to get a correct one to satisfy the collector in you ,
