Do I "need" a 1911?
I have a K31 and a decent pile of GP11. It's a joy to fire.
I found a 1911 for sale locally, asking $450, says matching and still in packing/shipping grease.
I know about some of the differences, locking lug locations and such, sight radius advantage.
Watching Iraq Veteran 8888's video, he states that, although it was designed to fire the GP11, he recommends loading a slightly milder round to reduce stress on the old rifle. Do you concur?
Please share your opinions, pro and con.
Secondary consideration. My 91/30's are a pain to fit into my safe. If they were 3 inches shorter, life would be easier. My quick and sloppy google-fu says the 1911 is another 3 inches longer. Is this the case?
Thanks.
Jay
Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

Re: Swiss 1911 vs. K31
I always load my GP11 similar to .308 for all my Swiss. Thats just me.
The 1911 is longer than 91/30, they are awkward to fit in a standard safe
but worth the effort. I believe they are the best of the breed, especially
at long ranges. You won't be disappointed.

Re: Swiss 1911 vs. K31
Total BS on down loading! Shoot GP-11 ammo. It was made for the M-1911 rifle! I have shot hundreds of rounds out of my rifle at long range.
You poor kid...... wait to you shoot it against your K31. The M-1911 is just stupid accurate at any range and a real joy to shoot. The rifle makes the K31 look sick at long range. I have won more matches at 800 yards shooting my M1911 than any other bolt action rifle I own, and that is saying something.

Thanks, gents.
Does the asking price look reasonable?
Please say no or my wife may put me out of her misery...

I have a 1911, a K11 and a K31. Always shoot GP11 with all 3 of them, no problems whatsoever.
On the 1911-length: put my 1911 and 91/30 next to eachother: 1911 is about 3,5 inch (8,5 centimetres) longer than a 91/30.
