Bayonet Question

Does anyone know if the K31 bayonet had a matching serial number when issued, or were they issued separately and not necessarily matching.

There's a couple for sale that are tempting but I want to know some of the background before I bite.

The bayonets when issued with the rifle should have matching numbers.

Soldiers do lose them and get issued with another.

I've got an M94 that the only number that doesn't match is the slide on the rear site.

Sometimes you just have to be happy with what you have - lol!

Fair enough!

Is the sawtooth the proper one for the K31, or the plain?

The 1918 plain is suitable for the K31 and the K11

The 1914 Pioneer will also fit both

Refer to the excellent site www.worldbayonets.com for your reference

I believe its run by one of our members

The bayonets were numbered to the rifle when issued. Unnumbered bayonets were either unissued or issued to musicians who did not carry a rifle.

Non combatants such as musicians etc in some instances had dress bayonets which had the Bayonet lug slot filled with timber so it cannot be mistaken for a combat bayonet.
This is a Swiss 1918 version
