Its of course an 1889 Schmidt Reuben
Manufactured in 1892 one of 91k made that year.

Its all matching and bore is in great condition.
Complete with muzzle cap and sling.

This particular rifle was "retired" from active service in 1924.

Hard to beat those Swiss rifles regardless of the model. That is a nice looking tiger stripped stock!

This is my third one, I love the quality of the design and build.
My other two are g1911 and k31
The tiger stripes drew me to it to buy it.

Wow, gorgeous rifle! It's amazing that some of those Swiss rifles have survived in such excellent condition. :handgestures-thumbup:

This particular rifle has aged well.
It was looked after by its owners.

This rifle went into private hands in 1924 and no doubt passed through a few
hands before I was lucky to purchase it.

It remained all this time in Switzerland until recently.

One of the cool features of this design is the magazine cut off.
Some firearms such as the early lee enfields had a hinged plate
which would be pushed over the magazine to you can single
load your rounds into the chamber and the bolt will not pick
a round up from the mag

On the Swiss 1889 they do things a little different, there is a lever on
the right hand side which lowers the whole magazine so the bolt
does not pick up a round from the mag. Lot more engineering
in this design

Beautiful rifle.

Assuming you can obtain or build for yourself some safe ammo . . . range report sometime?

Range report is on the cards.
We have put together some safe ammo to test.
Just need to get to the range.
Maybe in the next two weeks.

Cheers

Love the wood. Tiger striped stocks always get my wallet open.
