Its suprizing just how often the old New York Times reported on advances in arms designs, and even breakthroughs in propellents, metalurgy, and range finders or sighting systems.
There was a great deal of competition and national pride at stake, so it made for good reading and sold papers.

There are a lot of mistatements in these news articles, but thats to be expected.
