Stock but screw issue.

Post by kew1sg »

Help. I refinished my CMP M1903. The large stock screw will not go in all the way when re assembled. I think hot water may have got into the threads during the stock stripping process. That may have caused the threads to swell? It goes in leaving about 1/16th inch sticking out. Any suggestions before I damage it? Thanks.

This is going into wood? Which screw are you calling "the large stock screw?" Sling mount? Buttplate?

You could get a screw of the same size and thread pitch, then cut a notch out of it lengthwise with a file to essentially create a tap. Then run that through the hole

Are. the screws stripped or burred ? How did it look when you got it ?? Try cleaning off the threads with a stiff brush, inside and out.
