Well hot dang! I just read throught the stevens site and turned up a neat piece of the puzzle I didn't know.

The sportered (cut back stock behind the barrel bands) 7.35 Carcano Short rifle I have was a Finnish loaner. I had no idea! I'm always amazed on the knowledge out there!

I just found this one. Good info about the variants and the ammo.

Stumbled upon this:

http://www.earmi.it/download/libri/91.htm

Use the link on the left to download the book. It's time to learn Italian! There are some great photos.

I have viewed this site as a guest for months and only registered today. Great site. I do have a tip. Google can translate a website for you. The trick is finding the site you wish to translate using Google.

For instance the first post in this section lists www.il91.it. Type, "il91.it" into the search box and you should see the site listed. Click on "Translate this page or site". The result will be a English version. Be prepared the English version is awkward. The biggest dissapointment is that some things are too long to translate. The downoaded book listed in a subsequent post can not be translated due its size. The photos alone are woth the visit.

Carcano's are butt ugly but I'm interested. Two and counting.

There used to be a cav model in one of my haunts. Missing the bayonet. $60 as I recall. I am going through there tomorrow on a delivery. May have to stop and see if it is still there.

I had to wash my eyes out, be careful on the personal.stevens site. At least one of the links brings you to a BDSM site.
Tuco's Italian Firearms Forum link isn't quite dead.

The personal.stevens site isn't working now. Makes me sad, had some good info on there and a parts diagram. Never came across that other aforementioned link luckily.

This site has been down for 2 weeks - the server was infected. Our tech guy was able to fix it, and I've ordered vBulletin by way of further improvements. I've added quite a bit to the 'uncommon marks' sticky and will have a basic Carcano model identification sticky up this coming week.

Since the new English language Carcano book is finally in print, I'll be spending more time there and less here. I will still gladly answer all collecting questions.

Happy collecting!!! Ren
