The FN Venezuelan Mauser

Post by Cattus Borealis »

Howdy Folks!

I traded a friend for this short rifle. She has a nice bore and will be a good shooter.

I have been playing around with some Speer 160 flat point bullets and Vectan TU 5000 powder. The caliber is 7x57.

Here is a couple of shots for your enjoyment.

Is that a Model 24/30? I haven't seen one of those in years! If it is, it is highly desirable. Does it have import markings anywhere on the barrel near the muzzle? Probably does not as most were imported in the late 60"s early 70's.

Sharps,

I think she is a 24/30. No import marks are present. She came with a sling. It looked like someone (maybe the arsenal) had re-polished the receiver. I don't think the bolt matches but I don't mind about that as long as they shoot well. I plan on running cast bullets through my 7x57 rifles. I have casted a couple hundred Lyman 287405 bullets and will size them to .288 when the star sizer die shows up. I have not played around with 7x57 much and I am excited to see how it goes.

Take care,

Cattus

Nice rifle. I like that caliber and have a Spanish 1916 and an FN49 in it. I'd have others but it's tough to find milsurp these days. PAX

Great to see some life getting put into these fine old rifles. I got one of my Venny SAFN 49 rifles firing in semi-auto mode today using a 140 grain cast bullet! No leading in the barrel, ejection of the empties about 4 feet out and down on one 1 pile, and no damage to the casing! Now I have to test and see if the bullets are hitting point on and in a nice tight group.... Always something to worry about!

That's pretty cool Sharps!

Which bullet and mold are you using?

I've got a thing for contract South American rifles and that is a nice one.

That is a nice group. I'm always on the look out for a Venezuelan 24/30 and it's big brother, the 24/30 target model.

Thanks Calfed.

A 24/30 target model would be neat.

I bought an unissued FN 24/30 7mm Mauser from Century Arms in 1967.
It cost me $68.50
$526.00 in today’s money
