I have a question about a byf 135 stock, I aquired the stock and its solid but not to sure on the type of wood, it has a cupped butt plate, with the swastica and 135 on the pistol grip, and the side of the stock. From the YCGG site that I found it seems to me that its from 43-44. Does that sound correct? I am picking up a BYF 44 mauser that has a flat butt plate and I think that this stock would be correct to change out. As far as the stock I have I don't want to refinish it but what would be good way to just clean the years of grease and grime with out altering any of it. Thanks mike

That will work. BYFs were marked as you describe into '44 according to Law's book. I know they quit marking the bottom at some point in '44 but I don't know exactly when. Remove the butt plate and see if there is a date stamped into the wood there. A couple of my byf stocks are dated through both are '41s.

I have removed the butt plate but didn't see any date. I can't remeber the serial number stamped in the barrel channel but will see it again this weekend. Would the stock most likely be walnut? Thanks mike

Laminated most likely but walnut cupped stocks were also produced in much limited numbers. I have a cupped byf walnut with 5 digit serial so I figure it was a '43 made stock. I've never heard of later walnut stocks. I could be wrong as you just never know. They used wood that was available.

Its most likely laminated beech. But it could also be walnut. Ive seen pics of 45 dated matching ones with walnut. If you post a pic we'll be able to tell.

Thats the one on the bottom then, because the one I have is not laminated it must be walnut. I have a BYF 44 that I think this would be the correct stock for. Thanks mike
