The film is not colorized. It is in fact,a color film of sorts. If you have a camera with three lens, and place on each lens a colored filter of the three primary colors, one Red,on Blue,and one Green you will "fool the film to see that color hue. When you process the film as a positive image, you use the complementary color filters ( ROYGBIV). You end up with a primitive color film. I have done this in my day and gotten good results.

Very interesting film! I had found an interesting site a few months ago about color photography in WW1. It seems there were a few French and one German photographer that used color film to document that war. The link below has some good info and photos!

Bummer. There was some pretty cool stuff there including a grenade launching catapult in action and a Lebel sniper. Hopefully it will be reposted somewhere.
