Rifle 4 Drill Rifle M95

A Steyr M95 long rifle with no date due to a drilled out section in the barrel. No sling on it when found at a gun show. No reblue. Original metal finish. Original stock finish although the stock is a Red Oak with a wide grain. No serial number is stamped on the stock. The hand guard finish as well as the dent pattern match, but no serial number is stamped on the hand guard. Hand guard does match color and wood grain. All parts have a K stamp. The bolt matches and is stamped on the ball. However, the matching bolt has a welded firing pin hole and the firing pin cut. The rifle cocks and the trigger works. A demilled drill rifle hole was cut into the top of the barrel to deactivate the rifle. This is clearly visible and as a result no paint markings are utilized to identify this as a drill rifle. The barrel is not plugged. The rifle is otherwise complete and functional.
Price paid was $30 at a gun show in 2005. No one wanted it, it was originally priced at $100.

Great info and pics - thanks - very much appreciated. So sad what someone did to that "drill" rifle.

They have not been outside since 2005. Back then they hit a CMP 100 yard target just fine. The range is only 100 yards and if I use a reduced 200 yard target the old eyes do not see it anymore. They shot fine for old junk. :shhh: But a K31 will out shoot the dogs.
Back around 2000 the old forum had a guy that made new striker springs for the M95 bolts so each has a crisp snap to fire the Nazi ammo. I saved the weak originals. I remember most of the M95s suffered from weak striker springs.

Around 2007 when the K31s showed up at gun shows and Dunhams, I got them by the year because they ran $129. On black friday, the sales at Dunhams had both walnut and beech at $79 and I never went back to the M95. You just had to get to the door at 0:500 and buy as many as you needed, then jump to another Dunhams and go through their stock. Most stores had 25 -30 rifles so you could find a few dates that you needed. It also helped to know the guys, they would hold walnuts back for me till I arrived at my first 3 stores. The first 2 or 3 stores were great, but by noon most of the stock was picked over as far as excellent grade rifles.

I see. Mine seems to do much better with cast bullets. It is still in 8x50R and it really shines at 200 yards. I also have a Carbine in 8x56R, it is handy but I do better with the rifle.
