Mosin extractors have an angle on the face so while it is indeed snapping over the rim, as the cartridges don't feed under the extractor like on Mausers for example, it's fine and part of the design.

The rifle really doesn't have a follower anymore since the Japanese replaced the entire magazine assembly with a simple metal plate with a trigger guard attached to convert it to a single shot, manual loader. The plate is held on by the front action screw and the trigger sear screw. The bolt assembly is a completely unmodified Remington market bolt. Here are a couple more pictures.
