So I got this at the (LGS) local gun store, Matching numbers on the receiver and barrel. I am pretty sure that it is not a VZ24 stock or front band. Can anyone tell me what the stock is? Thanks.

Well after some research, the action is an O block made in 1924 and is an early rifle. The front sight has no barrel band. The bore looked good but is badly copper fouled, she is soaking in solvent and the patches are so green they are almost blue. Still no idea what the stock came from, it is in great condition and has beautiful figure to it, worth buying a barreled action to fit it!
Also no idea on that front barrel band either, it has a little hook on one side.

The stock is from a Spanish Air Force M44.

Very likely with a blued bolt. The stock could be from a Polish Wz-29. Many(possibly most) of the M44s were made from Wz-29s acquired during (before?) the SCW. I had forgotten about that one somehow.

Thank you! Them Spanish used a beautiful grade of walnut! (I assume its walnut) The (LGS) local gun store had another Mauser, on consignment from the same guy, and yes it is Spanish.

Are you implying it was issued like this? The steps in the barrel don't match the stock at all....

The big importers got a bunch of guns from Spain in the 70s when they were modernizing. Most of them complete, some in pieces that they assembled and sold as is. I'm saying that it likely came in that batch.

So, I wouldn't be a heretic if I changed it up a bit?

We need a heretic to burn every once in a while. Keeps everyone else in line. :o :D

VZ-24 stock sets come up for sale occasionally. Just keep your eyes open and you should be able to restore it to its former glory.

Good policy, sounds effective. :o I think that what I do with it depends on what condition the barrel turns out to be in. Three days of scrubbing and the patches are still green/blue. I haven't got to barrel steel yet. I knew it was mis matched when I bought it. What attracted me was the high quality Czech action...

Have you tried a foaming bore cleaner yet? I use gunslick on mine and it usually only takes one or two applications to get everything out of the bore.

The SCW was over before that Air Force stock was even made, wasn't it? I'm leaning towards a parts gun-action dropped in a K98K style stock. That hook on the front band is a parade hook-more typically seen on 1908 Brazilian rifles, for example.

Had I found that action, I would have grabbed it. I have complete VZ 24 stock sets waiting for a homeless action.
