Hi all,

today i received one of samco's M 98k. the serial number on the bolt matching the receiver. the stock itself is in "ok" condition. it has the winter trigger guard. i took it apart to clean so do not have pictures of it yet. the receiver/bolt/barrel are all in excellent condition. im very happy with it overall but was kicking around the idea of restocking it with a german style 98k stock (metal discs in stock) with the standarg trigger guard. the one i have does not have the floor plate you can open. so my question is would the action i have on my Czechoslovakian model drop into a the german stock? the receiver is marked "DOU 45". sorry if i dont have good info to share. any info is appreciated.

Yes, it will drop in, but why? You have a collector's rifle now. If You change stocks (and maybe trigger guards), it will just be another mixmaster.

actually i meant to ask about lowering its value. i thought these were just parts gun put together with whatever was on hand so the value was in being a good shooter. is this not the case?

What you have is one of the first Czech export Mausers to be made after WWII. It was made so early that it uses a lot of parts made for the Germans during WWII, which is why it is DOU 45 marked. They soon started scrubbing the markings off the receiver and later went back to the Czech lion crest. A lot of these rifles (but probably not yours) were sold to Israel. I would say it is definitely a collector's rifle and is probably also a good shooter. They must have run out of German type trigger guards because the "winter trigger guard" is strictly Czech.

I need one for my own collection but I am holding off, trying to find one with post WWII Czech Army acceptance markings (very uncommon) to go with a similar marked bayonet I already have.

thank you for the great info. i will leave it as it is then. you might give samco a call. i originally called about the budget one they had and was told they were out of them. they asked if i would be interested in one with german markings. it cost more but i thought would be worth it so i went for it.

thanks!

German markings would be tempting but I think I'd rather keep looking for post WWII Czech Army markings to match my bayonet.

If not for the bayonet, I would MUCH rather have DOU 45 markings rather than a scrubbed receiver like most are.

They don't show any online with German markings, just plain ones scrubbed. How much are they selling the DOU 45's for.

Does the stock have any matching numbers to the receiver as well? Any matching rifle is more desireable than a non matching one! If you do go the route of making it look more like a wartime issue K98, I would keep all the parts to return it to original configuration should you ever want to sell it.
These post war Czech rifles are not as collected as the wartime version, but they are still a piece of history of the post war era and a very finely made rifle! Should be a great shooter also!
