52 Izhevsk 91/30 single shot trainer

Post by Miller Tyme »

Picked this one up off of GB from a well known collection of an employee of CAI who has collected many fine and rare Mil-Surps over the years.

It's a 1952 Izhevsk Mosin Nagant single shot training rifle in 7.62x54r, one of approx. 10 that arrived stateside mixed in with some refurb's back in the early 90's. Little is known about these rifles but of the 4 that have been tracked down 3 are of the same S/N prefix and the 4th is a different S/N prefix
Hope you enjoy the pic's of one rare rifle.

Looks like its in great condition. Must be rare, because you don't see them on "7.62x54r.net". It "picks-up" the round from a position level with the bolt face? Seems like that would be hard on the extractor.

Since that posting further information on the rifles intended purpose has come to light thanks to a GB forums member (Ratnik) from research he has done in Russian archives.
" This is initial bullet speed testing gun ("скоростная винтовка/карабин"). They were produced in long rifle and carbine configurations, and both types also existed in barrel pressure measuring configuration ("крешерные винтовки"), with attached pressure measuring device - "крешерный прибор".
Unclear when Soviets started production of the simplified models for such purpose. At least prior to 1945 were used regular configuration rifles, produced with higher tolerances. In 1945 these rifles were marked with C or CK letters, which mean "Скоростная" in Russian"

Has your single shot Izhevsk been confirmed as a speed rifle MT? I hadn't seen anything new concerning them. I'm interested in these rifles since I own a 1945 CK 91/30, in fact it's the one pictured in Alexander's books and on his website.

Yes, Alex confirmed that is what mine is, I set him pics when he was writing his book along with some of my Trials Rifle, I just cant remember if the speed rifle made it in.

I will have to pull it out and check latter.
