Gentlemen......I need some assistance please.
I have a M44 I wish to sell and I haven't been around the forums for several years. I have checked several auctions for pricing and am having trouble believing a nice Romanian M44 is worth north of $400.00 now? Also I would appreciate any bits of wisdom on shipping and legal matters. Thanks for any input.

Jim

The big bucks are in ones with matching bolt and parts. Make sure the bolt is Romanian. Yes, they go $400-450 if all matching with a Romanian sling. Only made for 3 years 53-55. You should see the price on a matching Polish M44 :o Most Romanian M44s are miss matched, but even those go $300. Heck, a common Mosin 91/30 rifle is $200-250 now

I would take it to a gun show and sell it as a person to person sale--and poof it's gone. They are that rare 7 or 8 as for a matched M44. Just get the name address and phone number of the buyer and be sure he is a state resident. See the buyers DL. Some private sellers have a sheet saying the buyer is not a fellow, can legally purchase a gun, and no domestic dispute charges. Buyer signs this statement. Your protection. Some do not worry about a statement. It's up to you. Never ship a firearm during Xmiss rush. That is how mine arrived cracked, in a bent box. If you ship, insist on a hard gun case for shipping. To be easy I would let an FFL ship out the rifle.
I will let the experts fill in the details,do you have a C&R or FFL? You could sell it on the forum.  I just dump stuff at the shows easy and cash in hand or use it as a trade for something you want. That is a nice bargaining chip a dealer can sell fast.

Wait, the three Romo M44's I bought in '99 for $60 are now $300+ rifles? I woke up in Crazytown today!

yup, and the $35 Chinese Type 53 are $100-150, Russian M44's that were $55 are often $200+, M38 Carbines $250+... Rare examples bring more of course.

Thanks 72 usmc for the help. I'll see about posting in the for sale area.
Oh, and one other question. The sling with the rifle is leather but doesn't have any markings. Is there any other way to tell if the sling is Romanian?

See

Here are russian ones note the color difference, brass buckle/ metal difference and stiching vs rivits, these are DDR :
viewtopic.php?f=169&t=140865&hilit=+mosin+leather+slings

Look for dark brown leather not yellowish tan and steel rollers and buckle not brass. Rivits not stiched?? Most likely Romanian. In general, most russian Mosin slings are web. Some are black leather. See:
http://mosinnagant.net/ussr/RussianComblocslings.asp
see romanian on P. 2 a nice review with great pics of slings

Does your M44 all match, barrel, bolt, butt plate, Magazine bottom plate? No line outs of an old serial number or electro written forced matches. A Mosin has four serialed parts (barrel, bolt, floorplate, and buttplate) they should be numbered all the same. A matching rifle could be all stamped matching or force matched( not as good) .

Some of my lucky finds back in the day
viewtopic.php?f=28&t=17764&hilit=+tula+m44

It would be nice if all matching to photo document the rifle for forum members- lots of photos prior to its sale. Few see these in all matching condition with a correct Romanian sling

Here are some pics I took when I received the rifle. I just realized that it came with a web sling (from the pic). I'll need to find it.
