Has anyone ever seen this marking on an Arisaka? Translated it reads: 7 9. This is different from the usual Type 9 9. This came from South Asia and is a Series 2.

Actually it's a Type 97 rifle.

ETA: Per below information it's a 8mm Chinese conversion.

It is not a Type -97 rifle , they were made from Type-38 rifles and have two gas holes and the script goes top to bottom . It looks to be a Chinese 7.9 [ 8mm ] conversion and stamped as such .
