Anybody out there who can steer me the written procedure M1917 helmet rejects and the hole stamping. I have found references but nothing definite. When a helmet failed the .45 cal test, the entire batch was rejected a hole was stamped in the rim and a red stripe was painte across the top. The helmets were then use for stateside training.
Any help out there?

Thanks
Chet

In picking up little bits and pieces through the years. I know the U.S. used a stronger steel then the Brits in the Brodie. I have read that every 50th helmet was checked ???. With over 400,000 made in 1917, think about it. I don't know what was considered a batch, when it comes to rejection. The helmet could not be penetrated by an object traveling 750 ft/sec from a distance of ????.
You see very few helmets with this hole, although recently I have seen a couple show up. They have been quite rare. I'm just trying to refresh this old memory.
