Howdy Folks,

I had a bad experience today with some ammo I purchased about a year ago at a local store. I had three short hangfires with some "Red Army Standard" (Century Arms Import) 7.62x54R. The ammo is non-corrosive 148 grain full metal jacket. The head stamp is R SD 14 at the 12 o'clock position and J 7.62x54 at the 6 o'clock position. The primer and neck are sealed with green lacquer, the box has 05-14 stamped inside. The ammo is made in Romania.

The rifle in question is a newer B barreled M-39 rifle. I also found that this ammo shot very low. It was center hold at 50 yards on the 150 m rear sight setting. To hit 200 yards I had to set the rear sight to 300 meters. The weather was a warm 34 F.

I would avoid this ammo. I disposed of this ammo and will not buy more.

Thanks, I'd heard similar about a year ago and haven't tried it...sure won't now. Got some surplus but mostly handloading now.

Thanks for the info. My club members really like the ammo and I need to pass the lot number along for them to stay away from it.

Could be hard primers for ammunition intended for MGs and the Dragonov autoloaders.
