And how, thats all there were at this last weekends gunshow in Conroe, nothing but M/N's.
On another note, I overheard 2 dealers talking to about how they were going to lay off the milsurp stuff for awhile because it wasn't selling. I have to wonder if its because people aren't willing to pay over inflated prices anymore due to the economy?

I think there is a flood of WW2 being offered because (newer) used weapons are being priced to high. The LGD aren't getting in a lot of trade ins because people are holding on to what they have instead of getting 1/2 of what they paid for them. I also think the price of new arms is through the roof and out of the range of many buyers. For all of us looking for a gun or rifle that won't break the bank WW2 surplus has been the answer. I can still find good condition mauser, enfield or Mosin for under $200.
As stated these are slowly creeping up in price as well.
I would probably not even have considered a Mauser or Enfield rifle had some of the LGD's used pistols cost under $400. Most are over $500. What I find amazing is that my sons and there friends really prefer firing scoped WW2 surplus weapons. Supply and demand plus the cool factor.

Economy, economy, economy--O bum ma, and liberals crying to stop private sales= the sale of older firearms -especially the late 1980s surplus firearms. People are still keeping the favorite deer rifle or duck shotgun, but the excess or little used firearms are coming into the gun shows for much need cash. Truely a great time to pick up surplus firearms. Still very few actual original WW II or WWI bring backs are found. Maybe two walk-ins per large show, if that. Just got a complete Krag long rifle $200. Deal of the day. =D> =D>
You got to be at the right spot at the right time and have cash.

over inflated is right. i dont mind paying $140 out the door at my local dealer for a 91/30, considering a $30 shipping charge & $30+ ffl transfer. it comes down to around $80 a rifle.

thing that gets me is guys on the local classified ads selling yugo and chinese sks's for $600+........

dont get me started on pawn shops either. seems like its cheaper to buy a new rifle right now.

our local gun show this past summer was a joke, i seen many butchered 99 arisakas going for over $150.

Probably so, but they've been dying off for many years now and I haven't seen the flood.
If a WWII Vet joined in 1945 at 16, He'd be 80+ Now!

Also, if there's an heir with a computer, the net can give them a sorta value, just as
there are no more remote gunshops that can't estimate value. They all have and use
their PCs & Macs.

If there is a 'flood' of new milsurp 'deals', I believe it must be due to folks needing the
money in these rough economic times.

I have seen a lot of WWII stuff in the Pawn Shops, auctions, Gun shows and at yard sales and tons of the Vietnam era stuff also. I believe the families are selling off their departed fathers and grandfathers war treasures. I would guess my kids will do the same in a few years.

Chuck, believing you are actually 71 (some folks lie!), sell them off now!
Use the bucks, travel, buy a convertible, whatever.

If you feel it, leave a couple of choice, meaningfull pieces.

Shooting the big stuff will rattle your bones and de-focus your eyes.
Pick your lowest recoil, you enjoy shooting, enhance it and use that at the
range. Just my thoughts, worth what you paid for them.

I could never sell anything I got handed down to me. I just couldn't.
And if I thought my kids would just sell everything to a schmuck looking to make a buck I'd probably do it myself to someone I know would give a damn.

The WWII and Vietnam era stuff I've found of late I have squirreled away for later if and when things pick back up. I notice the prices for all that kind of stuff is down on Ebay and other auction sites unless it is very rare. With the dollar down there are lots of rarer items heading to the EU and Asia these days. If one wants top dollar in this market one needs to sell overseas. I don't care to sell vintage US items to those outside the country (lots of scammers in the EU) so the stuff is stored away for better times.

I may not have been paying attention well enough before, but it seems to me in the last 3 years or so, its been the last year that I am noticing lots of guns from the 40s and 50s - milsurp or not - showing up on racks. I don't rememebr seeing as many of them before.

The saddest part of the vet bringbacks is that their father's, uncles' etc sacrifices mean nothing to many folks except a way to make a few dollars for a video game that will be obsolete in 2 years.

Most of the so called bringbacks I have seen lately have Century, R guns, Aztec or Inter Ord import marks.

Part of the thing could be that people are trying to dump off old rifles to get something that might get banned.
