I picked up a rally nice No4MK2

Post by BCR#1 »

I gave $425.00 for it from a 93 YO RAF WWII vet. It used to be his hi-power comp rifle back in the late 60's before his eyes went south. All he shoots now are ,22LR pistols with red dots mounted on them.

That's a great looking Enfield! The brass butt plate makes them look so classic.

The wood looks very nice from afar. A few close-ups would be cool, especially any remaining cartouches.

Close-ups of the nomenclature and other metal markings are great, as well as a few showing off the overall finish of the metal (again, looks great from afar).

Just entertain us with gun porn. That's half the reason we are here!

No cartouches or a serial number on the wood and no sanding of the wood that I can see. Matching numbers on the metal and the bolt head is stamped with a 1.

Thanks, Bill.

That wood looks great, especially when I compare it to my only Enfield, a 2A1 with lots of repairs and dark stains...

It looks somewhat similar to the wood on my Polish M44, which I believe is beech. Anyone know what kind of wood this might be?

All the blond Enfields were either beech or birch, sometimes stained to be darker as well.
Best way to tell is look for "fishscale" grain. If there is some it's beech, birch is pretty featureless for pattern.
