Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

My pair of sporters

#1 Post by Hams03 » Sun Apr 15, 2018 3:35 pm

A while back i got in a trade a no4mk1*. Recently i read that all mk1*s were made at long branch, or savage. I find no s markings on my rifle, or markings denoting savage manufacture, i do have a number of B markings leading me to believe a longbranch.
This weekend i traded my 7mm mauser for a second sportered enfield. It is a no4mk1 i believe and above the 1944 marking is clearly marked M47C. I find this denotes BSA Shirley. Unfortunately the barrel has been cut on this one as there is no bayonet lug. I am planning on giving this rifle to my buddy when he graduates the MBA program at UF. Please let me know if my info on these rifles is incorrect.

You have got it about right.

However - just to throw confusion into the discussion there were approximately 20,000 No4 Mk1 manufactured in England that were actually marked as being No4 Mk1*

Nobody knows where they got hold of a No4 Mk1* stamps from, as (as you state) the Mk1* was the North American authorised 'amended specification' manufactured by Savage & Long Branch to reduce the complexity of manufacture.

I would've traded one of my sport job .303s for a 7mm Mauser. I've got a 2A1 7.62X51 in one of those ATIs, an 8X32X50, with 5 round mag & bipod. Good shooter, accurate. PAX

I enjoy the sporters. Cheap and utilitarian. Some are prettier than others. I would like to put some more sporty wood on the one that the barrel is cut, and would love to get a beech forend and handguards for the other. I also have my eyes on a no1mkIII sporter, that is in a black plastic stock, with a bull barrel chambered in 30- 30. I would want a better sporter stock for it as well one day.

I really like my "Goobermint Model sporter" No5.
No, I didn't refinish or grind it, I got it "fer cheap" after someone else did.

I even found a Santa Fe "street Legal" 5-round magazine for it.

I like the stock you have on that one Tommy Atkins. I could use a couple stocks similar to that.

Nope but they have them for the no4 & No 5 last time I looked (when I went there to get the link).
Choose make:
British Lee>>
Choose model:
drop down>>
No 1 MkIII
No4 Mk1
No4 Mk2
No5 Mk1

Magazine fed military barrel>>

Yup No4 Mk1, No4 Mk2 & No5 Mk1.
I don't see a forend for the No5, but the No4 will work.
