Here's a question what is the cutout in the stock for by the right receiver ring?

Nice carbine, that is a feature and all Type 38 rifles, I beieve it was a channel to allow water and other foreign objects to drain from underneath the action. Much like early Type 99's having Adrian hole under the receiver.

That's kind of what I was thinking, just wanted to make sure. Thanks B32

Hammerdown, from what I've read(definately not an expert) slot was for the dust cover to slide in other side of receiver have a milled slot also(above serial number)? Again, from reading here, most Japanese soldiers through the dust cover away quickly, too noisy.

That could be, its so rare to find an Arisaka with the dust cover still on.

That's a great-looking carbine, with nice bluing as far as I can tell.
Does the dust cover match? A three-digit number that should match the last three digits of the serial number should be on the trailing edge of the cover.
Again, you have a very nice piece.
