Arisaka Help Needed

Good evening,

I was wondering if anyone could share their expertise on WW2 rifles with me. I just recently acquired this rifle from my grandfather who obtained it when he was in the Navy in WW2. I have some pics, and it has the Mum and some serial numbers. I have no idea what any of this means. I would certainly appreciate some expert advice !

With what little I know it appears to be matching down to the bolt. It's a Type 99 which is stamped beneath the Chrysanthemum. If you take a clear picture of the left side of the reciever the smart ones can tell you the Arsenal and series number along with the year made.

Also has the anti aircraft site, the wing things on the rear sight.

Rifle looks like it brand new, nice example. Like I said get a picture of the left side of the reciever and the smart people should be along soon to tell you even more.

The stock has been sanded and refinished . Someone tried to remove the barrel with a pipe wrench at one time . That really hurt what looks to have been a matching rifle with most of it's parts .

So this appears to be a Type 99 ? I have no desire to sell this, so I’m not seeking a monetary value, seeking more of a history lesson.

Made at the Nagoya Arsenal. The small character in a circle to the left of the SN is the series marking which I can't find with my limited knowledge right now.

ETA: Appears to be a series 5 if I got it right.

So a Type 99 made at the Nagoya Arsenal, Series 5.

Maybe made in 1943 (This I'm not 100% sure of)

Yes it is an early Nagoya Series 5 rifle . The 5th series was when Nagoya started to drop features . The mono-pod was left off about mid series , and the A-A sights followed right at the end of the series .

Sweet rifle, and belonging to your grandfather makes it even better.
