So yesterday I went out to Springfield Sporters. They were not listed for sale, but I came across a rack that partially filled with Gras rifles. I paid them no mind but I have wanted a Gras for a long time, so I did go and look at them. There were 4 left, and I was told they were pretty much all junk, but I wanted to see (being the silly guy I am), if any had potential. Last one on the rack seemed to be slightly cleaner than the others... I must have put it down and picked it up 4-5 times. Finally, I decided that I had to buy one, just to see if it was a restorable gun. At a price of 85 dollars, I just knew one had to have potential. So I picked the best one of the bunch and brought it home. I scrubbed on it for about 2 hours. Just some Dawn dish soap and a lot of Bore cleaner and dirty rags. I think I picked a winner! So far the only downside is that there is pitting on the underside of the barrel, but it's spotty and it's surface pitting. Pictures provided.

The stock is beautiful. I only hit with dish soap and water, and I don't think it needs anything else. Turns out it's an 1878 Gras Mle.1874/80. Bore is dirty but nice. I was expecting a sewer pipe. No import marks that I've noticed yet.

So, it looks like I am going to need a few small parts... barrel band keeper springs... an entire bolt assembly, a sight slider maybe... this is where you guys come in... based on the photos I have, is this a doable restoration? Whose got a bolt they can spare to sell me?

Numrich has some of the bolt pieces available, plus they have the rear band spring but not the front.

ETA: Springfield sporters has Gras parts but they aren't listed yet, might be able to call them and see what they have.

Wonder if he already asked them, seen as that's where he got the project rifle.
