Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

6.5 Model 91/38

#1 Post by HogBoy » Tue Sep 12, 2017 7:57 pm

Got a 91/38 from a fellow over the weekend. It was missing the trigger guard, front band and rear band screws along with the bayonet lug. I am pretty sure he was going to toss it in the trash at some point as he really didn't want to take it back home and the gunshop wouldn't take it either. The stock has a crack in it but should be an easy repair. So far it has cleaned up nice, just need to dig out my cleaning kit so I can clean the bore and chamber. Plan on reloading for it and casting my own bullets. Once I get my parts in I'll post a picture for you folks.

I'm guessing a lot of these rifles have been thrown away through the years.
The parts you need can be had. If you need a stock though, that is different.

That's a good source for stocks. I had forgotten about them.

Lets see if this works. I had to add a trigger guard and screws, barrel band screws and the bayonet lug. Parts cost more than what I paid for it. The crack in the stock opens up alittle when everything is tightened down. It also looks like someone tried to glue at some point. Wonder if I drilled it in 3 places and plugged and glued if that would fix it and make it look as close to an arsenal repair or just order another stock and be done with. The bore is cleaning up good so far no major pitting just surface crud.
