Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

Moschetto modello 38/6.5 counter-bored barrel

#1 Post by Maico » Fri Aug 18, 2017 5:09 pm

Gents,

Where might this work have been done? It appears to be a 1942 Moschetto 38/6.5 with a 91M type rear site, with unknown 1942 marked barrel, that has been counter-bored. The stock is a 1942 era Moschetto 38 (type with a fixed rear sight).

The bayonet lug was hacked/shaved off.
The barrel length is 44-cm; barrel length of Moschetto 38 is about 42-cm.
The counter-bore is about 2-cm in length.
The lands are set back about 0.5-cm from the crown.

Cheers,
M

In 20 years of Carcano collecting I have never seen a Italian military counter bore . My first guess would be someone was shooting .263 dia bullets in a .269 bore and they shot poorly and they thought a counter bore would cure that . In 30 years I have seen a lot of guns screwed up by people who did not know what they were doing .

As I understand it, these are carbines that had the folding bayonet removed, the lugs ground off, and a barrel extension welded onto the muzzle. All this was done to comply with older BATF regulations stating a rifle had to have an 18" barrel. Most say this was done by the importer, such as Interarms. Also, importer marks were not required before the 1968 Gun Control act, so an imported rifle might not have them.
