Those Stock stamps just looked so large and incorrect.. So I ask has anyone seen stock stamps like that on other French rifles??OldRifles wrote: ↑Fri Dec 21, 2018 12:56 pmI saw that one, I'm pretty sure it's legit. I initially had reservations about the stock number, but I think it was due to the lighting. I have one very much like it, and these are consistent among examples. It appears that the German depot at Krakau/Cracow assembled these out of donor carbines and rifles, then stamped the left side of the stock. That number is functionally the serial number for the finished product. I've only seen one of the assembled examples with matching numbers, and none of them have the alpha serial number prefix, in contrast to original French R35s.indy1919a4 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 21, 2018 10:54 amThat makes sense France was one of the largest armies to surrender to Germany..
I am glad you brought this back up. Recently there was a rifle on Gunbroker that was a French lebel with German capture stamps.
Now I has my suspicions that this is not legit..
I ask for others opinions...
Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

The second/lower depot stamp on that one is very similar (if not identical) to what's on my Lebel R35. Bear in mind that that part of the underside of the stock was rounded and small, so the depot stamps don't always appear impressed completely on these. The depot is Krakau 1, or 'Kru 1,' as is tooled into the stamp. I would REALLY like to know why some R35s went east to Poland (Krakau) to be completed, while so many French carbines and rifles either received no depot stamp at all, or went to Naumburg, and almost nowhere else...
