Re: Chamber diamensions for the Jap 6.5x50?

That is a question with no answer . What rifle ? Early T-38's , late T-38's and Type I's all have different size chambers . Also the chambers on rifles of the same group also vary a lot . The actual Japanese cartridge size as designed is much smaller than the T-38 chambers . It is what was used by N...

Re: K31 help please

I do not understand how the above info would help the OP ? I would say try a C-clamp , with wood jaws ? Bullet tip hole drilled .

Re: K31 help please

The bolt is not closing fully due to either bullet or case contact . It could be so close that just a firm thump on the bolt may fully close it . The link to the old post was an amazing collection of really bad info and advice posted by people who had no idea what they were talking about , other tha...

Re: reloading data

A lot of the info in the wiki write up is incorrect , Bores sizes , the meaning of the S ,the dates , the bullets sizes , case sizes . If you have a 8mm Military rifle you will not have a .318 bore as that size was never used by the military . It all smells like old doc's BS .

Re: I picked up what I thought was a Carcano today

The rifle is a Type I . It has the type I rear sight .As stated , look for the stripper clip guide . It will be in 6.5 Arisaka . A chamber cast will be a waste of time as the 6.5 Jap is so close to a 6.5 Carcano it will chamber and fire in the Carcano .

No the ammo was not the same . Different bullet ,different velocities . It is not a secret , it is documented and you can look at real ammo .

Re: Jap 7.7 Ammo...Safe to Shoot?

Mr 72 usmc , your first video posted about the 7.7mm ammo is ok . He gets all the cartridge id's and uses correct , but he gets all the tech stuff wrong . The reason the heavy bullet MG 7.7 ammo was not used in the rifle was not the strength of the action , it was the recoil . The 7.7mm rifle ammo w...

Re: In Praise of the Gew 1888

What type Gew-88 do you have ? A Gew-88 , 88-S or a 88/05 ? Do you have an original German barrel , a regular size Czech , a small size Czech or a .323 replacement ? A photo of the markings on the top of the receiver will help with id .

The old Charcoal burners were well made and accurate rifle in their day. With today's powders, they should shoot very well. I have read than Trail Boss works very well and will not spike like 5744 can.
good shooting at 300 yards.
What is a charcoal burner ?

That rifle is not a Gew-98 anymore . It has been converted . It's value would be determined by who did the conversion .

Re: Ariska Type 99

It is an early no series Nagoya rifle . With all the damage it looks to me to have been blown up , or someone over here used it as a hammer . The mono-pod is worth more than the rest of the rifle .

Re: GEW 98 need year made by serial number please.

Yes the mounts seem to be the repro's once sold by Sarco . The scope is German , but probably a commercial . The S is not a bore size as it will be found on Gew-88 rifles with the original .321 bore as well as any rifle made after 1896 with a .323 bore . All it means is the early rifles were cleared...

Re: GEW 98 need year made by serial number please.

Also the original serial number looks to be bb 2086 , so it is not even a low serial number , it is a 122086 serial number . The b's were polished off of the receiver when it was blued by the Germans in the 30's rebuild , or the later Spanish 2nd reblue . With that high a serial number it is almost ...

Re: GEW 98 need year made by serial number please.

I saw the photos of your rifle . It is not an original WWI sniper rifle . The rifle was rebuilt in Germany in the 1930's and went to Spain for the civil war . The Barrel is not a 1940's replacement , that is a date code for the sight replacement . The mounts and scope were added much later . The bol...

Re: GEW 98 need year made by serial number please.

Since they repeated serial numbers each year , it would be a first months production of about any year between 1900 and 1918 . If it is an original sniper , most were made from 1915 to 1918 .
