Swiss Vetterli rounds dropping out bottom.

I’ve noticed while test cycling rounds through the tube magazine that sometimes if I don’t pull bolt To rear briskly enough to bring lifter to full top position that next next round in the tube will fall out the bottom of the lifter mechanism. Anyone else have this happen? Thoughts on the cause and ...

Re: Swiss M-78 Load Development and Results

I tried 20 grains of 2400 the other day. I tried three shots at 100 yards. Average V= 1352 FPS. I’m noticing a trend for a first shot flyer on a cold clean barrel, with subsequent shots being much closer together. Including first round flyer, the group for three shots was 3-3/4”. The last two shots ...

M78 Vetterli rear sight adjust

Ok. So the front sight doesn’t adjust for windage.
Why can’t the rear sight be drifted for windage in the huge dove tail slot it sits in?

Re: Proper mould for Swiss Vetterli with 38mm brass

That’s the one that I was contemplating on getting. Would be useful in my Smith & Wesson 6 to 9 as well. I’m just wanting to make sure that I can crimp the bullet at the proper 2.2 inches for cycling in the tube. I didn’t know if anyone would suggest one of the Vetterli bullets that seem to be avail...

Re: Dutch Beaumont stock restore project

That final stain I used was the dark brown Feibings. So if I use Tung or BLO I can’t use my gunnys paste?

I think for this Beaumont I’d want a more flat finish. Not sure though.

Re: Dutch Beaumont stock restore project

Ok. I think I’m finished with the staining. So does it even come close to resembling an antique stock and not a new one? It is over 140 years old after all. I know the fact that it has been sanded smooth doesn’t help. 84FC4217-C491-40C8-8DE7-7B43EBBA40BA.jpeg C4A0B279-9DA4-46BD-9ED9-8DE5048E05DC.jpe...

Proper mould for Swiss Vetterli with 38mm brass

I want to cast the same kind of bullet that works properly with 38 mm brass with an overall length of 2.2 inches. Bullet weight should be about 310 to 320 grain’s preferably with a flat point. Any suggestions appreciated. I’ll mainly be pan lubing with green speed or tumble lubing with XLox or Alox.

Re: Vetterli cartridge lifter sticking

Attention to detail gents. Attention to detail. So the funny thing is when I first got the M 78 it functioned smoothly from the beginning. I did the firing pin conversion from St. Marie and everything functioned smoothly still. I then decided to make a similar firing pin carrier from a nylabone and ...

Re: Dutch Beaumont stock restore project

I was able to remove a great deal of the Chestnut Ridge stain with a clean towel and alcohol. How does it look now? Feibings dark brown arrives tomorrow. https://i1320.photobucket.com/albums/u528/KneverKnew/3CE6E277-4D17-47BB-B344-9C65F8810E43_zps1bb2q03m.jpeg https://i1320.photobucket.com/albums/u5...
