Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

Re: Cleaning up old M78 Vetterli. Pointers please.

My clean up of the stock came out nice. Just the 80/20 mix rubbed on and let sit for 5 minutes and then a gentle scrub with terry cloth rag got off a lot of black grime. It didn’t harm the original finish at all but did manage to bring out enough a nice figure in the wood of the buttstock. The small...

Re: Please help date my new M78 Vetterli

Thank you all for the help. Sounds like 1880 is the winning date! From what I’ve read I don’t believe it is an 1878/81.
Thanks again.

Cool gun!

Cleaning up old M78 Vetterli. Pointers please.

I pulled the old girl apart today. Cleaned off any rust I could find as well as more than a centuries worth of grime and grit. Mechanism works fine and the barrel looks amazing for the age. All numbers match that I can tell, and there are a lot of them. I have two nylon centerfire conversion parts o...

Yes Buffalo Arms told me they include a custom 458 expander in the ch4d set, same as what they use in making their high dollar 43 Beaumont ammo. The one ch4d ships with the die set is 453 or so.

Yes, I’ve been necking down with 45 acp die and using 458 socom expander to size back up a bit. Was hoping the die would take care of it for me. We will see.

First, KneverKnew, you are not MUD! Yes they are not cheap but I thought it was a worthwhile investment. Now to business! I cut down my 50-90 sharps with a cheap, Harbor Freight, mini chop saw. I then used Imperial sizing wax as a lube and sized the cases. After that, I trimmed them down to the 2.0...

I think you have found the load the rifle likes. Now, you need to try Paper-Patching and to hell with barrel leading.
I am very interested in paper patching. Can you direct me to good resources that would help me learnt it?

Well, you might as well go ahead and call my name MUD. I called Buffalo Arms. They happened to have a set of 43 Beaumont dies. They cost almost as much as the gun itself, but I bit the bullet and placed the order. Man was that painful. I sure hope I get a LOT of use out of them. Now for the big ques...

Re: 1874 Beaumont/ Vitali still shooting great! Range report...

This question concerns the use of such a small amount of IMR 4198 in my Beaumont loads. The 30 grain load which seams to shoot so well for me leaves a large amount of free space in the case. One manual I’ve read says to use a poly batting to fill the space and hold the powder next to the primer flas...

Re: 1874 Beaumont/ Vitali still shooting great! Range report...

That looks very good. I, too, have formed my brass from 50-90 Sharps. I sprang for the CH4D dies to size them. I have 30 loaded with 55 grains of black powder with 400 grain .459 lead bullets. Waiting for a nice day in central hell (ohio) to take everything to range and see what I have. I'm hoping ...

My load developement for my new to me 1874 43 Beaumont has started to pay off. I originally purchased twenty formed 50-90 cases to try as well as some of the “43 Beaumont” 380 grain soft cast lead bullets from gunbroker. 380 grain soft cast “43 Beaumont” bullet and it loaded into the purchased forme...

Re: Restoring wood finish on Dutch Beaumont. What did they use?

Ok. A few clarifications. First, I was trying to ask if feiblings is a PASTE, not “a thing of the past.” Dang auto correct. Also, I made some Gunnys wax a few years back. Still got some. I got out of the Corps in 87, FYI. 😉 Second, explain exactly how you would apply the Chestnut Ridge stock stain, ...

Re: Restoring wood finish on Dutch Beaumont. What did they use?

What a great help! Thanks for the info. I ordered a quart of the military stock stain. Shipping was $11 for the 8oz bottle and $15 for the quart. Should last me a good long time. Is the feiblings shoe die a past? I’m thinking a darker red brown as you mentioned. The look you get from well aged and o...
