Re: My first FN-49!

Rifle arrives tomorrow. Being an Egyptian Century Import FN, what’s the chance it already has a safe two piece firing pin?
If I need to order a two piece, which do I get?
I’ve seen both with and without safety notch. ??????

Re: My first FN-49!

I have access to a barrel. What does it take to swap them out?

Re: My first FN-49!

Yes thanks. I was looking at those. Now, how can I attach to muzzle other than just welding in place? I’d love to restore the battle as much as possible so that the nose cap can be removed if needed. I’m open to all options though.

Re: My first FN-49!

Pictures didn’t show crest. Just have to wait for delivery. Doubtful it all matches. It’s a Century after all. LOL.

Re: My first FN-49!

Thanks Bob for those suggestions. I don’t have the rifle yet so won’t know the bore condition until then. I do have a friend who has a complete 8mm barrel assembly if necessary.

Re: My first FN-49!

Can I get some ideas on how to treat the muzzle end of the barrel where the threads were ground off? I’d like to re-thread it but the question is does that mean cutting off the ground down piece so the barrel is a little shorter? Or try to thread the existing end to a smaller thread?

Re: My first FN-49!

If I decide to keep it (if it shoots good) I’ll have a friend re- thread it for me. What would be the correct muzzle device to put on it? Haven’t seen many with flash hiders. Generally what looks like a thread protector.

My first FN-49!

I’m sure I paid too much. Got it in an auction. $605 delivered. Egyptian 8mm with replacement wood and plastic but cap by Century. Someone ground down the muzzle threads. The few pictures looked okay but not detailed. Did I get ripped off. Be honest, I can take it. 😭 B80D97AE-A034-44AB-B435-4FF5C1BE...

Re: Which Bullet lube for 41 Swiss?

Thanks. But I already have the two mentioned. Just need to know if the regular rcbs bullet lube will work as described.

Which Bullet lube for 41 Swiss?

I’m casting with the Lee 430-310 flat point mold using gas checks. I recently got an original RCBS Lubamatic Bullet sizer luber. The old box came with one tube each of RCBS Bullet Lube (for pistol?) and RCBS Rifle Bullet Lube. My precious loads with a similar purchased Bullet was doing around 1450-1...

My M-69/71. Not an 1881/08.

8659462C-A8FA-48FE-98C1-1A630F8D122E.jpeg Decided to creat separate post of this rifle with pictures. The bore is rough but still has rifling. Hopefully will shoot decent enough for a brush gun. The buttstock is not from a vetterli but is very roughly fitted to this receiver as you can see. Also it...

Re: Swiss vetterli 1881/08 Short Rifle. What the..??

According to this site mine is actually a cut down M-69/71. “ Bern started producing the M-69/71 in 1875 at serial 114.001 all older serials could have been made by several other manufacturers too. In 1875 they made 8000 rifles so till # 122.001” What buttstocks are compatible? 71’s, 78’s, 81’s...et...

Re: Swiss vetterli 1881/08 Short Rifle. What the..??

I think the only thing I want to do to this rifle other than make it centerfire, is get a correct buttstock. Any suggestions where I might find one?

Re: Swiss vetterli 1881/08 Short Rifle. What the..??

Well this one I got for $115. 23” barrel with dove tailed front sight installed. Looks to me to be originally a 69 or 71. Has checkering on forearm wood. Tube magazine holds 6 including lifter, so maybe originally a carbine? Buttstock does NOT look original vetterli to me. Very roughly installed wit...

They call it an 1881 but from the sorry picture I see Checkering and an old style rear sight. Is there such a thing as a short rifle or is this just a cut down bubba gun??
