Re: Types of Waffenamt eagles??

Ok, I know I sounded like an idiot BUT, I’ve compiled a small reference list of photos and names of eagles used during the period 32ish to 45 and I can more clearly reference the correct type when talking about inspection stamps!

Can you ID rifle maker or bolt group maker by Eagle over 214 stamp?

My friend has a Norwegian repurpose K98k that was reserialized from the German 5590 than a small case letter to a five digit Norwegian number. All of the 5590parts are Eagle over 37 marked but the bolt group for the most part is 997 and Eagle over214 marked. Ive heard the Norwegians didn’t try to re...

1939 Sauer and Suhl serial numbers?

Hi. Where on a 1939 Sauer and Suhl 98k would the serial number or portions of the serial number appear? I was hoping for a diagram that I could use for a class I may teach. A list would help if not a diagram. Thanks all!

Types of Waffenamt eagles??

I was looking at a 1939 Sauer and Suhl 147 marked 98k today and for the first time really noticed the different kinds of eagles represented in the Waffenamts. I noticed at least four different ones, some just over two or three numbers and some over the WaA numbers. I guess what I’m wondering is if t...

Re: What series is this Type 99 Short Rifle?

Called my friend and he agrees that we should try to get a repro rod and try to acquire both the dust cover and monopod in the long run. Oh, and a repro sling. Bore looks good so I’ll probably get to shoot it when his range is dry! Thanks everyone for your help! Here are a couple more pictures!

Re: What series is this Type 99 Short Rifle?

Well, stupid me...when I said I put my .22 cleaning rod in the rifle cleaning rod hole and it only went in 2 1/8” that’s because I didn’t have the button depressed and it hit the button. Well I depressed it today and my .22 rod goes in about 21”. So much for the long hidden cleaning rod treasure!!! ...

Re: What series is this Type 99 Short Rifle?

The US manual is a great link..thanks. Wouldn’t it be something if that cleaning rod has been in there all the time!!!! My friend’s dad gave him this in about 1960 and he has always thought the rod was missing!!!

Re: What series is this Type 99 Short Rifle?

Thank you all for the wealth of info. The square button is free and pushes in easy but with a spring action. Could a 24” cleaning rod have slipped below the release mechanism? Maybe I just need to invert the rifle and tap the muzzle on a soft block of wood and see what comes out!

Re: What series is this Type 99 Short Rifle?

It is all matching serial numbers without cleaning rod and monopod. The mounting holes are there for the monopod but it was not on there when my friend’s dad brought it back from Japan. He was among some of the first troops of occupation. Was with the 361st Special Engineer Regiment. It doe have the...
