Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

Re: French 1892 revolver

The holster appears to be genuine, with stamps from raw material supplier and manufacturer.

Re: 308 MAS 49/56 can you pronounce it Le Mas like LeMans?

thanks! I will announce my Mas 49/56 with emphasis. just shoot it proudly since it's a very well made French rifle but keep in mind it's been modified to fire .308 Nato by cropping the barrel, mainspring and forearm, its original accuracy may have been reduced by a poor barrel thread re-machining (...

Re: 308 MAS 49/56 can you pronounce it Le Mas like LeMans?

The proper name is "24 heures du Mans" and by the way what is "annoying" in a Frenchman ?

Re: " Cleaned Up" Berthiers

A few pictures of a Mousqueton M16 issued in September 1918 by MAC, the finish is very similar to CGSteve rifle.

Re: " Cleaned Up" Berthiers

Too bad about the missing or erased circular reception stamp, the SN stamping on the left cheek of the stock is very crisp, the circular reception stamp was stamped just as vigorously and may have been erased on purpose.

Re: " Cleaned Up" Berthiers

A well preserved example! The original stowed paint finish (Parkolac) may have been enhanced by a coat of varnish (the wood furniture looks varnished on the pictures). The original finish of the furniture was linseed oil. The receiver was provided by MAT arsenal (Tulle) but the rifle was assembled b...

Re: " Cleaned Up" Berthiers

BD 4161 was made in 1926/27, one of the highest known SN.

Is there a circular reception stamp on the right side of the stock?

Re: Non-refurb MAS 49/56

The absence of a refurbishing stamp does not guaranty you rifle was not refurbished. Since the rear sight winding adjustment screw hosting the peep sight of your rifle is not original to a standard rifle but looks like its from a MSE setup, the accuracy of your rifle may surprise you favourably. Re: Non-refurb MAS 49/56

Careful if tinkering with the night sight dots, it's tritium, best not inhaled or ingested even when old!

The French Armourers erased or crossed over the old electrical pencil SN before writing the new one.

Re: " Cleaned Up" Berthiers

I had some interactions in the past with the "expert" you mentioned and it turned nasty, what you suggest would amount to a lot of work and would require the agreement of the original writer.

Re: " Cleaned Up" Berthiers

The emergency of the First World War and the long production history of the Berthier rifle has resulted in a chaotic situation for the modern Berthier owner. Armorers in the Great War would receive damaged weapons, pull parts from different weapons, and send the new weapon out to the front as soon ...

Re: French Model Berthier 1907-15/34 find

The French designation of the Berthier Mle 07-15 M 34 was fusil d'infanterie. According to the serial numbers, around 65.000 were made. A small quantity was also made for the Cavalry with the same barrel length, a bent bolt handle and a rear side sling attachement located on the left side for back c...

Re: French 1884 rifle

This is a precursor of the Mle 1886 Lebel! This Mle 1884 rifle originally in caliber 11mm is an improved version made by MAS and MAC for the French Army of the Model 1878 Kropatschek built at Steyr for the French Navy (25.000 pieces) who had not bought in the Gras system. About 52.000 rifles Mle 188...
