Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

Re: Alliant 2400 With Cast Bullets

Mark, you can go over to the Castboolits website and find the whole article by CE Harris about "the load", I think it's in the Military calibers reloading section. And, it's handy that you can make your own sizers. I've not had any success yet with any of my Enfields (SMLE, P-14 and No-4), but all I...

Re: 1886 Steyr, "The Kropatschek"

I had my Kropatchek (also with a broken lifter spring) for a couple of years before I ran across one on E-bay, one that I didn't have to buy the whole barrel assembly to get. Cost $50 to get it repeating.

Re: Help needed in saving an 1886/93 Lebel

So the #12-24 might work. But it may depend on if the OP's rifle still has the 5mm threads, or if it has the 5.5 But there's really not much tension on that screw, other than just to keep it in place. The main thing seems to be the diameter, for a tight fit, and the taper to help get it started in t...

Ken, I have a Gras too, and while I have shot it a little, getting brass that fits is a real pain.

Re: Help needed in saving an 1886/93 Lebel

Mark, to take out that bolt-first take out the tang screw behind the trigger guard, then unscrew the bolt in question. Of course, it'll stop coming out when it comes to the end of the threads. I just then carefully pried it out some with a screwdriver, then hold on to it and twist it back and forth ...

Re: Help needed in saving an 1886/93 Lebel

PS, My Lebel likes to shoot the .329 Steyer bullets sized to .325, but they're a bit short in OAL, and sometimes when working the bolt "smartly", the loaded round will launch right out onto the ground. To avoid having to get a custom mold for it, I'm considering epoxying a spacer in the back of the ...

Re: Help needed in saving an 1886/93 Lebel

Mark, don't worry about taking out that bolt, it only goes through a hole in the trigger group housing. Nothing rotates on it, and no springs, I just took the one out of mine, and it is VERY tight, but it's got a taper just behind the threads to help getting it back in. It might help to use some sor...

Re: Dutch Beaumont stock restore project

In picture #5, it appears to have a crack forming. That's a weak area on these stocks.

Doesn't a .32 special use a straight sided bullet, rather than a heel base?

Re: Restoring wood finish on Dutch Beaumont. What did they use?

Buying a "dog" Beaumont for it's stock might be easier said than done. Many have cracks around the magazine cutout area, converting them to a repeater left the stock weak in that spot.

Accurate molds makes 2 different molds, and I believe NOE also has one. But no, there's no $20 Lee mold for them.

Re: French 8mm ordnance

I've never used HP38 or Titegroup in it. I just checked on the last box I loaded, it was 2.6 gr Bullseye. My bullet is 110 gr. I started with loads for the .32 S&W, and worked up a little. I figured that's safe, since both the case capacity and bore diameter is larger than the S&W cartridge, which w...

Re: French 8mm ordnance

Accurate Molds has 2 designs, one 110 gr, and one 120, I think. I have the 110, and a friend has the 120. Both seem to work equally well.

Re: Questions about my dad's .30-40 Krag

Original Krags, as manufactured, didn't have the front sight mounted on a barrel band. The front sight was dovetail mounted directly to the barrel, and the job was done so well it's difficult to see any line, it actually looks like it was machined from one piece of metal. Using an '03 Springfield fr...
