Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

BLACK POWDER

Subject: BLACK POWDER - FWIW I see where some have been so discouraged with their black powder shooting that they have given up. I think that this may be due to two main reasons. That the makers may have ‘possible’ derated their powder just for safety sake. They may have thought that they wanted to ...

Re: JUST TRIVIA

I have a grandson that just graduated yesterday from Air Force Basic as an E-3, but I think he went in as an E-3. A year ago they offered him a job of setting in a trailer at Nellis AFB in Nevada and flying those drones in the far east but he didn't like that because he would have had to go to fligh...

Re: Advice on annealing--and YouTube posts to evaluate

IMHO, here is some information in this link that in my opinion is written by someone that has little grasp of the English language. But there are people out there that will just automatically believe it just because they see it in a website article. http://www.dbssteel.com/aisi01.asp For example, it...

Re: Advice on annealing--and YouTube posts to evaluate

Yes Tommy I know that the melting was an extreme example, but true, right. I remember as you say, years ago when I heard that it was common for it to be like in the dark, heat to a noticeable 'glow' . And I say still too hot for me - not required....and that is all that counts, right? If it is just ...

IN PASSING

We see all of the publicity of the England royal wedding and the world doesn’t know how close it came to there being ‘No Queen Elizabeth’. When I first got to Torbay AB, Newfoundland in 1953 I heard the story of the 1951 visit by Princess Elizabeth where their pilot of the Comet aircraft landed shor...

Re: Memphis Belle On Display At USAF Museum

Dad spent the majority of his 26 year AF career working the F-4, when he retired in 1988 he was Production Supervisor of the 20th FS which was the German-American joint fighter training squadron at George AFB, California and was flying the F-4. I will call this a funny story – In 67-68 I was workin...

Re: Advice on annealing--and YouTube posts to evaluate

Okay Tommy – Now I think I see what you were saying...If the brass gets too hot or annealed too much it will be too soft to hold the bullet correctly and maybe let the case get crunched up when seating the bullet, yes, yes, of course.

Re: Advice on annealing--and YouTube posts to evaluate

Okay, Tommy, I think I know what you may be saying. This is the way that I understand these things. Point being that if brass is heated to the point of melting, the zinc starts to evaporate from the mixture, (solid mixture) and then the new alloy can not be hardened back to the hardness of the alloy...

Re: Advice on annealing--and YouTube posts to evaluate

Oh, wait a minute Tommy...on the ‘permanently soft’ part...are you saying that after one burns the crap out of the brass, like melting it, it can't be work-hardened after it cools down?

I guess your 'too soft' may have something to do with what you may be saying.

DSC_0047.JPG Okay, I just held the leather on with rubber bands until the glue dried and then filed them down for a firm bore fit. They will swell up a bit after applying the lapping compound and I will have to file them down a little more. I'll just glue some wooden handles on and that will be it....

https://www.emsdiasum.com/microscopy/products/materials/polishing_supplies.aspx These are the cheapest lapping and polishing compounds that I have ever seen, and I don’t know why. It must be that the others are just so much more expensive. For example: The Clover compounds at 33 a pound which is may...
