Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

Re: Military Surplus k98ks commonly found at gun shows

Another Czech K98, but still in 8mm, an early specimen Old guns .com actually had an 8mm Czech K98 in 8mm mauser that was not converted. This is a hard one to find at gun shows, but they must still be out there. Source of the pictures are old guns- their pictorial mosaic . This specimen, a DOT 1945...

Re: Military Surplus k98ks commonly found at gun shows

Here is a view of a Mitchell import mark on the barrel. Notice the poor condition of blue on this "Souvenir" grade Mitchell. Their Premium and Collector grades had better condition sourced/selected RCs. first photo "Souvenir grade", second photo "Collector grade" Screen Shot 2018-02-19 at 1.37.43 PM...

Re: Military Surplus k98ks commonly found at gun shows

So here are some photos of the Mitchell box and over the years the goodies that came with the replica-like, U.S. made over, humped K98 rifle. The contents of the collector box :shifty: depended on what was on hand and what grade you purchased. Since I never got snookered, I do not own one, as a resu...

Re: ca. 1905 c96 broomhandle. interesting marks

The attachment 003.JPG is no longer available I got/get the same garbage when I try to remove photos and add a revised version. Best not to edit photos with the forum method. Get what you want then place in line as needed one at a time or the odd statement shows up and the old photo still stays put...

Re: pic metal ship box with odd BCD 43 K98k

I have my dads WW II USMC tool box, (USMC Corsair mechanic) with 2 doors that flip open and the top tray that lifts out is way thicker than this shipping box. It is constructed way heavier and more durable than this K98 shipping box. Thanks for those pictures of the WW II jeep boxes. On your left ph...

Re: pic metal ship box with odd BCD 43 K98k

Does you box look like it had hinges on it at one time??? No hinges, the box is a thin sheet metal, not galvanized. Not a real heavy gauge like a Sears tool box, but still a sturdy box. Maybe the metal thickness was like a US GI ammo can, but not refined edges. It must have took a bit to dent it up...

Re: pic metal ship box with odd BCD 43 K98k

Thank you guys, Semper Fi As for the box itself, could be anything, hell it could be an Axis made, used container that was repurposed. It is an odd color to the box. All of the USMC stuff was olive or drab green. Maybe an Africa Korps box??? The Germans had that dark sand yellowish brown. That makes...

Mike, Did you ever see tin equipment or parts boxes like that in the Air Force? Do you know anything about the unit and where it was?

Re: Tag read Austrian made Mosin?

Look for KA3if it is a rare cossack. I think its a Finnish or Romanian dragoon. Id say Finnish. I'd have to see it close up. It has the stock splice and dragoon type hand guard. Hex receiver most likely dated in the 1920s and the older sights. No cleaning rod is a bummer. Check the bore and does the...

Re: pic metal ship box with odd BCD 43 K98k

Here is an interesting first hand account of post WW II scrap piles in the US as late as the 1950s since the author refers to a " 57 Chevy" in a letter in GUN COLLECTOR magazine, Dec 2014 Vol. 36 No. 6. As a kid in the early 1950s the author tells of escapades of plunder. I wonder how many such scra...

Re: pic metal ship box with odd BCD 43 K98k

The owner thought an Air corps guy might have access to aircraft tin for repairs and had someone in the shop make the Captain a box. There were lots of repairs to airplanes at a depot shops. Lots of tinsmiths that could have fabricated the box. I thought it was more likely a tin shipping crate for p...
