Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

Re: JRA 1903A4 Accuracy

Nice video. Fun rifles to shoot. I have a Gibbs version. Unfortunately, my range only goes to 225 yards, so I can't fully test its accuracy at long range. I haven't tried 175g bullets, but may give them a try with my next reload. Thanks for posting!

Re: Type 97 or Type 99 Sniper if you can only have one?

I ended up passing on the Type 99 sniper. It was not in great shape, the scope was very cloudy, and the owner would not budge in price. I did manage to win a Type 97 sniper at auction. It has a nice, but mismatched scope as most of them do, but is matching otherwise. It also came with the scope can....

Re: Gun Shows: When Did Our World Go Nuts?

I've found the best bargains at gun shows are the guys with one or two guns to sell out of the trunk of their cars or walking around the show with a sign hanging off the gun. Occasionally a decent deal on ammo to be found, and I've found accessories on occasion at a good price, mainly because the gu...

Re: Finally got my first Garand!

You poor soul! That is a nice looking M1. That is exactly how I started out. Now I've got Garands in each flavor (SA, Winchester, HRA, and IHC), plus one in 308 and a M1D. Now I'm looking for a M1C. We all start out thinking we can resist addiction, but all it takes is one nice one to start you down...

Sounds like anything you would do at this point would be a waste of money on what is left. I'd say if anything go with your first plan and put it back in an original stock, then sell it and move on.

I agree that the environment in the Philippines is brutal ( from what I saw ). I hope the Garand's look better than this one brought back from the Pacific!!! LOL
That looks like a field grade for sure!

Re: CMP announces how Army surplus 1911s to be sold

It will be interesting to see how many salvageable rifles they get from the Philippines. I spent 3 years there in the AF and metal and wood don't last well in that climate. Plus the fact that the Philippine military was not known for for their meticulous care of firearms.

Re: Light weight projectiles in C96/38 or Ljungman?

Thanks for the data. Speed looks good for all powders. Interesting that Varget gave the best results. I have always heard guys claim that Varget was a heavy bullet powder. Varget is also my most accurate load with 170 gr bullets in my K98. I'd say that part of the problem with accuracy with these li...

Re: Scoped the MAS 36

I have seen pics of a French sniper rifle built on the M36.
I'd like to see those photos. Do you know what type of scope was used? Always wanted to scope my M36. I have an APX scope on my 49/56. Always wondered why I'd never seen this applied to the M36. Seems like a nice sniper setup.

Re: M1917 Stock Finish

I've always heard that raw linseed oil was the initial finish used on these rifles. Later (WW2 era) I think I remember reading that they switched to Tung oil. I've always liked the raw linseed oil finish the best, but it is also the hardest to apply in that it takes the longest to do properly. I thi...

Re: Rust Bluing Tips?

Thanks for the help. Is it OK to just drop the parts into the boiling water, or do they need to be suspended so they don't touch the bottom of the pot?

Re: Type 97 or Type 99 Sniper if you can only have one?

Yea, I like the idea of the 4x scope option on the 99s. Got a local guy selling a 99 with a scope, but I'm not sure whether the scope is a 2X or 4X. Price is a little high compared to what I've seen Type 97s sell for. Seems like the 99 snipers come up much less frequently. I'm taking look at the rif...

Type 97 or Type 99 Sniper if you can only have one?

If you wanted to add a Japanese sniper to your collection and could only afford one, would it be a Type 97 or a Type 99? All things else being equal are these 2 Japanese snipers approximately equal in value or is one more collectible/valuable than the other?

Thanks!
