Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

Re: Browning has ceased producing Hi Power
Got one years ago, and love it. If anyone out there has one of these obsolete old unrelaible outdated pieces of nostalgia scrap and needs to get rid of it and buy something light and fluffy, I'll take it off your hands and give it a good home. Don't be surprised if Browning starts limited production...

Re: Photographing a bore
What brand and model of camera are you using? There are probably some settings that would make success more likely. If you are shooting directly into the light, then it's a bit like pointing the camera into the sun and trying to capture an image. If it's a point-and-shoot, try setting it to "macro" ...

Re: Is it worth it?
Definitely worth it. You can use it for almost ANY firearm over 50 years old, not just military surplus. See item 1 below. That currently means anything before 1968. If you buy more than one a year, it pays for itself. The following is copied from the rule from the current BATFE circular on the 03 F...

Re: Jungle Carbine Stock Restoration
One other option would be to pick up a complete No. 5 if you can do so at a fair price, and sell parts from the one that you have to recoup much of the price. Who knows, you might even come out ahead. There's a nice one on Gunbroker now for $499 with no bidders (yet). If I didn't already have one, I...

Re: Jungle Carbine Stock Restoration
If it's a real Enfield #5 Jungle Carbine, and it was mine, here's what I would do: The foreend cap is the biggest challenge in recreating a forestock. I'd try to save the original stock, and splice in a replacement piece to replace what was cut off. You could hide the splice under the band. I would ...

Re: Enfield P14 rear sight
The volley sight was a holdover from the pre-WWI era. Put your armies in a nice straight line, and begin marching towards each other, and make rangefinding easy. The Brits used volley fire to create fear and demoralize the enemy lines on approach from long distances. There is an undeniable effect of...

-33F in Watertown, NY, without the wind chill. Since you lose all feeling pretty quickly at that temperature, what's it matter if it's colder?

Re: 1905 Ross
Is a Ross rifle worth it? That depends on you, not someone else's opinion. I''ll tell you what I do now that I have acquired at least one of everything (Axis, Allied, Occupied, and Neutral): I shoot my 1911 7.5X55mm Swiss long rife the most. I shoot an M1 Carbine nearly as much because it is so much...

Re: H&R M65 Reising Trainer
Some, but not all of The General 65 models had slightly shorter stocks and cuts in the comb. Early H&R advertisements listed The General as having a slightly lighter weight than the military model 65. It was a transitional model to the 165 Leatherneck released in 1946. H&R records from that era are ...

Re: Milsurp collector age
I'm not necessarily limited to collecting military surplus, but I have more of that type that anything else. Started at age 50-ish with a S42G K98 13 years ago, and never looked back. I'm a sucker for anything designed by J.M. Browning.

Re: H&R M65 Reising Trainer
I have two M65s. One is in the 1000 range, one in the 5000 range. Excellent sights, very accurate, but fussy about ammo they will shoot without occasional stoppages (failure to eject or chamber from the magazine). If I can get through a box of 50 rounds without a stoppage, they are having a good day.

Re: Mad Minute.
Still here, but I need to retire so I can be more of a pest. Our local range (Waterloo Rifle and Pistol Club) is 200 yds, and despite being in NY, if you can fire an accurate and safe shot every 2 seconds with a bolt gun, no one is going to bother you. In fact, you'll draw a crowd to cheer you. BTW:...

Re: CMP announces how Army surplus 1911s to be sold
If the 1911s were not sold through CMP, and they were not destroyed, they'd likely be sold by Century. Buying 1911s by the thousands is only possible by a larger corporation. They would not be inspected, refurbished, and graded to the same standards applied as CMP. They would be handled by the custo...

Re: AGAIN JUST ME
Perhaps. But I know all too well how to change the oil on my car while lying on my back in the snow. I like to pay the kid at Jiffy Lube $19.50 to do the job now. I make a lot more money than that kid per hour, and I just don't like to do the job myself. I feel the same way about rust bluing. I can ...

Re: TO EACH HIS OWN
There is a law of diminishing returns that applies to rifle scopes, like many items. I do think a scope like the current VX-1 series from Leupold are a cut above the lower priced alternatives from other makers, and they do have a lifetime guarantee and great customer support and service. At around $...
