Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

Re: What model of Swiss?

Out of a 96/11, yes. But not out of an 1896.

Re: R. FAMAGE pawnshop-sporter project

Took this sow late this afternoon, using the above load, at about 100 yards. Rifle and bullet performed admirably.

The sow is in the cooler now.

Re: Your never too old to learn....She made my day.

At the risk of sounding sappy, one of the things I'm thankful for today is the community at SRF, and all the knowledge I've managed to glean here over the years (although I still don't know much). RapidRob has consistently been among the most knowledgeable and generous contributors to my growing dat...

Re: R. FAMAGE pawnshop-sporter project

Happy Thanksgiving, all. I put a new scope on the R. FAMAGE the other day (a Sightron S1H), and adjusted the brass shims for a yet better stock fit. Went to the range yesterday and did some sighting in and load testing. Mid-range loads with 165-grain PPU SPs and H4831 show a lot of promise . . . but...

Re: What model of Swiss?

A good place to start is at Swissrifles.com. They have a quick comparison page, detailing the major differences you asked about: http://www.swissrifles.com/sr/detail/ Easiest way I know to tell a 96/11 from a G1911 is the spliced-in pistol grip on the 96/11. A few years ago Wideners had a sale: 5 Sw...

Re: R. FAMAGE pawnshop-sporter project

Thanks, bobvz.

The trigger is actually pretty nice, for what it is--but I'll put that on the list with working up loads with 4831 (see above) and further tweaks to the shims/stock fit question. And breath control. . . .

Re: R. FAMAGE pawnshop-sporter project

Well, I'm still not in love with the way it shoots (or the way I shoot with it) but I seem to have arrived at a "load to beat," for now. This one, like my load for the Garand, uses 48 grains of IMR 4064, with a 150-grain Speer HotCor SP. thumbnail.jpg I will--when I get a chance--load up some 165-gr...

I have had some good luck with pawnshops in my area. Sporters are cheap right now. . . .

Re: R. FAMAGE pawnshop-sporter project

Thanks, gents. I'll get out to the range one of these days and post some targets. Meanwhile, I've acquired a better , more hunting-appropriate scope. With the 40mm objective bell, it will probably have to be mounted on higher rings, but at least I should be able to put the sight leaf back in place. ...

Re: AFriend in need is a Friend in deed!

Congrats on adding a K31 to the collection. And what a great story behind the acquisition. Perhaps you should think about changing the title of your thread to Friends in need, emphasizing the plural. Regarding your question, have you tried posting this info over at SRDCdotcom? There's a recent threa...
