Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

Re: Browning has ceased producing Hi Power

Sad news but I guess the writing had been on the wall for some time. The expense of producing them priced them out of the market for folks looking for a new-production handgun, and the old-school single-action fan-base isn't getting any bigger in the age of affordable striker-fired polymer self-defe...

Re: Pawnshop Predicament

Let us know if you were able to grab the Finn. As mentioned, if priced comparable to an M95 I would think it will go fast. And don't feel bad if you have to pass on the M95 this time--those were imported in vast numbers and should remain relatively easy to find at reasonable prices for a long time. ...

Re: Military Surplus k98ks commonly found at gun shows

PennsylvaniaRifleman does the bolt match or is it a miss match but the bolt matches itself?? Looks like a matching rifle except the bolt???? Do the bands match? One fine K98k. Thanks for the detailed photos. Yes--everything but the bolt matches, and the bolt does match itself. You're welcome for th...

Re: Military Surplus k98ks commonly found at gun shows

Great resource--thanks 72USMC! You inspired me to pull out my Kar98k, which I have always presumed to be a Romanian capture. It is a duv 42, and I see that I paid $145 for it in August of 1994--that was full retail price at the Blue Sky Gun Shop in King of Prussia PA (now long gone unfortunately). I...

Re: Pleae post loads closely resembling WWII 7.7

I've had good luck using the PRVI 150 grain FMJs from Graf's, over 42.6 grains of H4895. The published Lee starting load is 41 grains of H4895 for the 150 grain jacketed bullets. I haven't had a chance to chronograph it yet, but the published data rates the 41 grain load at 2337 fps. A lighter load ...

Re: Sling Repair

I have an old-school shoe repair shop in my town with a leather-smith that loves projects like that. I know shoe-repair shops are a vanishing breed, but it might be worth an try if you have one nearby.

Re: My Remington Tac-14

I admit to being an ammo nerd, and really enjoy matching up weapons and their loads to properly form a "system" for whatever niche is needed. Here's a close-up of the rounds mentioned above. All three deliver their payload at about 1200 fps, more than enough for the close-range encounters this syste...

Re: My Remington Tac-14

And yes, I couldn't resist picking up a tactical scabbard that can be slung over the back. Pictured is my theoretical load-out of choice--a Federal 9 pellet 00 buck in the chamber, followed by two PMC 28 pellet #4 bucks, followed by three of the NSI Minibuck six-pellet 00 bucks. Say what you will ab...

My Remington Tac-14

This may not be the most popular type of firearm for the surplus aficionado, but I have to admit that I couldn't resist purchasing a Tac-14 from Classic a few months back. Here it is shown with my other 870. At first, I bought it simply as a fun toy and because it scratched an itch I've had since se...

Re: In praise of the S&W Model 10

Great gun! I'm shooting the heck out of my newly acquired M1917 Brazilian contract S&W and it's making me realize I'm going to need a Mod 10. BTW, I have the exact holster as you're showing there. "Hunter" brand? Zieg I'd love to stumble into a S&W 1917, definitely on my "would like to have" list. ...

Re: In praise of the S&W Model 10

Top condition compared to most you see now a-days . Around here you see those that are that nice going for about $400 or more. Great find. Thanks! I was happy to get it at that price, because as you mention they seem to generally go for more than that unless in relatively poor condition. This isn't...

Re: fnh cz27

400 sounds reasonable for a shooter-grade. I paid less than that for mine, but that was many years ago and their values have jumped considerably since then. The "weak and gummy" slide action wouldn't bother me personally, as I would anticipate having to clean out many years of gunk and residue, and ...
