Ruger buys Marlin

https://ruger.com/corporate/marlin.html Good news. With all the bankruptcy proceedings, we won't lose this classic brand. I was disappointed when Remington first bought Marlin, but at least Ruger should be able to do well with the lever gun division. I hope they keep the .22's as well. It'd be a lo...

Re: Military Rifle Trigger Pulls

Nice comparison. Do you have any duplicates to see what variations might exist within same models? I took a Yugo K98k rework, and polished up the mating surfaces on the trigger, receiver, and cocking piece. Lowered trigger pull by 1-2 lbs and made for a much smoother experience. Didn't have to do an...

OWS "sporter" M48

Anyone buy one of the "sporter" M48's from Old Western Scrounger? I was thinking about picking one up, but wanted to see if anyone had bought one and could give some impressions. They say "dark bore" but that could mean a lot of different things! https://www.ows-ammo.com/original-yugoslavian-m48-mau...

Re: K98 Project

I have had good luck with the Lothar-Walther barrels. I have purchased two, and they shoot very accurately, and what was more surprising, is that they were already set for headspace (close on go-gauge, do not close on no-go gauge) when first torqued.

Re: Trigger time! (aka I'm still here!)

Got to test tonight, just replacing the spring did the trick. Thankfully! It looks likely that we will have a baby born this week, so it may be a while before I get to a range test, but at least there is progress! Now to troubleshoot the .22.

Re: The State of Our Hobby

Just really need to get out and meet people, invite them in, etc. The university where I am currently working and enrolled in a Master's course has their own gun range. I went shooting there this weekend, and it was mostly younger, college kids. Plenty of people took interest in my 98k, and one of t...

Re: Trigger time! (aka I'm still here!)

Rob, it's a brand new commercial action I bought from Sarco - no cosmoline and a brand new spring. It is actually longer than the military springs I have laying around, but looks like it is thinner gauge wire, and feels softer. I hope to test a little bit this evening, but from my wife's dr. appoint...

Trigger time! (aka I'm still here!)

Hey there! I'm still around, but haven't had time (or money) to do much with the old rifles to be worth posting anything. I was finally able to take some time this weekend and go target shooting. With everything else going on, I didn't spend a whole lot of time, but it was wonderfully therapeutic! I...

Re: Ethiopian 8x57

Sounds like it's worth buying a few small boxes - I've seen 15rnd boxes on sale for about $5 a box - just to have and try. Still have a lot of late 70's yugo and some M75 I picked up for less than $2 a box a few years ago

Re: Anyone tried Aguila ammo?

I've used some of their pistol ammo, and it has been reliable. I'm not accurate enough with pistols to determine anything more than that.

Re: Oil Blackening?

Found some good info in this thread: https://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb/general-archive/oil-blackening-rust-protection-84713/ it would appear your mainly going to see a difference in finish color. I would probably try experimenting with some small parts to see what's best. My truck is overdue for...

Re: So is anyone going to the Wanenmacher's Tulsa Gun Show

I went there several years ago. It was amazing. I haven't lived anywhere close enough to go for the last 9 years, unfortunately. I wish, I heard it is THE GUN SHOW. I only have an 03FFL. Is it not just for FFL’s? I could because of work but I would love to see it at least. If you go, keep us posted ...
