Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

Re: CMP Special Grade

Thanks, I love being a good influence. A co-worker is ordering a service grade as all the specials are gone for now.

Re: CMP Special Grade

Thanks, I intend to keep it as long as I'm physically able to use it. Having eight 30-06 cartridges in a quick-firing rifle for close-in animal attacks is comforting. So, while it's a little heavier than most hunting rifles, this is what I carry in the woods all the time now. It's accurate, and the ...

Re: CMP Special Grade

My CMP special is now pretty much the only one I use. Been testing my accumulated M2 Ball with it, and doing more shooting on my land. It really carries pretty well with both hands and balances just right for "field" positions.

Re: SOME THOUGHTS ON ACCURACY & OTHERS

Folks have done comparisons with flash-hole uniforming and it really has made a difference. I was not trying to "trash" the idea. For benchrest shooting it does tighten up the groups. An important part of the equation is the unsteady human holding the firearm. Folks really need to get off the bench ...

Re: SOME THOUGHTS ON ACCURACY & OTHERS

I know the long range and bench rest competitors use flash hole uniforming tools when work up their cases. Probably for most of us, we wouldn't see the difference. While I've used competition rifles that shot better than minute of angle from the bench, once I picked it up and shot "from position" th...

Here is link to guy doing special 585 HE in the EU, Good pictures., Ed,..... ...... www.585he.cz This would be appropriate for kodiak bear. Alaskan rangers carry 458 Winchester rifles, and are trained to use them rapid fire, shooting, reloading and shooting until the bear stops (or they are killed)...

Re: CMP: 99,000 Garands are back from overseas, update on 1911s

Looking at the CMP rifle sales, they have specials with external pitting on the receivers for around $850; with new wood, barrel etc. Might make a really good shooter where you're less concerned about dinging up a historical or collectable rifle.

Re: Attempting to clone GP11 in my K31

I believe Swiss GP11 used the equivalent of Reloader 17 for propellant. While it sort of falls in the burning rate range of H4350, IMR4350 and WW760, it has a different pressure curve. The peak pressure is a little lower and the curve is flatter.

Re: Good M1 video

At the time troops were constantly drilled and trained in the loading process so it became automatic. Veteran troops could maintain a remarkable rate of fire on the battlefield.

Re: Good M1 video

Probably the biggest delay in reloading is getting an enblock in your fingers ready to press it into the rifle. The US GI 10-pocket belt is probably still the best for reloading from. Bandoliers really are a PIB to work with, and are best for refilling the belt when time permits. Folks would be surp...

Re: G43 sporter stock without recoil lug hole??

A large part of recoil is the rocket engine effect from the high pressure gas (6,000 to 15,000 psi) exiting the muzzle after the bullet leaves.

Re: SOME THOUGHTS ON ACCURACY & OTHERS

Once someone picks the rifle up off the bench and shoots from a "field" position, that minute-of-angle rifle may not even stay on the paper.
Under those conditions, most won't see the difference between a tack driver and one that shoots 4 inch groups at 100 yards.

Re: Good M1 video

That video pretty much dispelled all the so-called flaws associated with the M1. The "enemy hearing the ping" being the most absurd. With all the racket of rifles being fired the enemy won't hear it. This was verified by interviews of German soldiers after the war. It is a good signal to the shooter...
